Considering the fact that the Xiaomi Redmi Go was manufactured in 2019, Xiaomi was smart enough to implement some must have features of the year.

Design

The design of the Xaiomi Redmi Go isn’t that impressive especially now that we are seeing a lot of bezeless and notch displays almost every where in Nigeria.

The Xiaomi Redmi Go gat some fraction of bezels at the top and bottom. The bottom bezel even has the navigation buttons on it, this is kind of old school.

But that is not to say the Xiaomi Redmi Go is out of shape. It’s got a plastic body, a 140.4×70.1×8.35mm dimensions and weighs only 137g, making it easy to handle and carry.

On the right is where the power and volume buttons sit while the dual nano-sim + dedicated micro SD card tray are positioned on the left side of the phone.

The Xiaomi Redmi Go now comes with two noise reducing Mic that can listen with high clarity even in a noisy background. It is also loud and clear during phone calls. So there is no need to shout!

The microphone is positioned at the top and bottom of the Redmi Go. The one at the top is accompanied by a 3.5mm headphone jack while the other sits with a charging port and speaker at the bottom.

Display

On the Xaiomi Redmi Go is a 5.0-inch HD+ screen that is pleasant to the eyes. It has up to 380/330-nits brightness and a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

The display also maintains a 1280x720p resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and 296 pixel per inch square with 72% NTSC color gamut.

This is perfectly okay for a budget smartphone in Nigeria. The Xiaomi Redmi Go can help with some level of decency on her display.

Playing games, reading and watching movies with the Xiaomi Redmi Go wasn’t disappointing at all, it was just okay for the eyes.

Camera

The Xiaomi Redmi Go comes with a 5MP selfie camera and an 8MP rear camera with a single LED flash but there is no flashlight in front.

The 8MP rear camera on the Xiaomi Redmi Go has up to 1.12μm large pixel, 4-element lens and ƒ/2.0 aperture with Auto-focus and HDR baked inside.

There are also 11 scenes, 13 filters, a countdown timer, manual mode
Real-time filters, burst mode and smart scenes mode on the camera.

Honestly, the camera on the Xiaomi Redmi Go is good though but it isn’t that impressive, it can take pleasant pictures but don’t expect too much from the camera.

The Xaiomi Redmi Go can also do video recording at different range. Starting from as low as 480p to 720p and as high as 1080p video shooting.

Battery

Under the hood is a 3000mAh non-removable battery that is acting as the power house of the Xiaomi Redmi Go. It’s got up to 5V/1A charging in it.

The battery life of the Xaiomi Redmi Go is long-lasting, on a good day, the Xaiomi Redmi Go can last for a day or two before running down to zero.

Xaiomi even guarantees up to two 10 days stand by time, 12 hours call time, 78 hours music playing and 5 hours of video playback.

Software & Spec

The Xaiomi Redmi Go comes with Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition). It has 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. There is also the one with 16GB ROM but it is available in limited edition.

As expected, there is a micro SD slot for expandable storage up to 128GB. The Xaiomi Redmi Go aslo comes with snapdragon 425 chip and runs on a 1.4GHz quad-core processor.

What’s More

The Xaiomi Redmi Go comes with essential sensors and connectivity like vibration motor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, WiFi 2G, WiFi direct and Bluetooth 4.1.

And of course you know for sure that the Xiaomi Redmi Go won’t let go of navigation. It’s got GPS, AGPS and GLONASS to walk you through your commuting.

The Xaiomi Redmi Go has no fingerprint and there is also no face ID feature. Yeah! I get it, they just had to make up for the cost.

Inside the box

The Xiaomi Redmi Go comes in a sweet looking box. The box is something that admire so much, this is one of the box I love to keep.

When you unbox; you will find the Redmi Go, Power adapter, USB cable, SIM eject tool, Warranty card and User guide.

My Thoughts

Knowing very well that the Redmi Go is coming from a big brand like Xiaomi should give you some level of satisfaction in a world where smartphones are getting more expensive in Nigeria.

That said, the Xiaomi Redmi Go is the best deal for the price it is selling at in Nigeria. It’s so amazing to see how Xiaomi was able to blend price and quality together yet arrive at something great.

On the Xiaomi Redmi Go, there is snapdragon 425, 4G LTE, Google android Go and a host of others. There are only a few android phones you can buy for less and enjoy more in Nigeria.

If you are buying the Xiaomi Redmi Go in Nigeria, be ready to browse to the fullest but please do it with caution. Remember, the way you take care of a device depends on how long it will serve.
