Prior to the Gionee X2 release, we have barely seen any significant amount of smartphones launch from Gionee for sometime now in Nigeria. This single act have generated so many questions.
Especially here in Nigeria where we are used to seeing a lot of smartphone launch coming from different brands at different intervals. Sometimes, It’s like back to back.
Before now, Gionee use to produce range of smartphones that gets highly patronize in Nigeria. And then one day, we just woke up and discovered that Gionee smartphones are almost out of space.
What exactly happened?
In case you haven’t heard, Gionee is bankrupt. Yeah! They have insufficient funds to level up with competition. With the Gionee X2 release, there is still hope for a comeback.

Design
The Gionee X2 comes with a design that is not far from usual. On the right is the volume rocker and power button that have a nice texture coated at the top which makes it very easy to identify.
At the bottom is a micro USB port and two speaker grills. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top but there is nothing on the left not even a SIM tray.
The Gionee X2 comes with a removable cover which when opened, will let you gain access to the dual nano-SIM slot and micro-SD slot.
The fingerprint scanner and dual rear cameras plus LED flash are also positioned at the back. You will also find her built quality very interesting even though it is made of plastic.
Display
On the Gionee X2 is a 6.0 inch IPS LCD display that does a great Job of presenting a pleasant viewing experience with her entry-level 1280 x 600p resolution on board.
Considering her price point, the 6.0 inch display will get the Job done. At least, you will get a decent picture quality you will find on most budget smartphones in Nigeria.
Camera
The Gionee X2 comes with a front-facing 8MP camera that is housed inside the teardrop notch. The selfie camera is good at taking amazing shots even in dark scenes.
At the back, there are two cameras: a 13MP and a 0.3MP sensor working together to bring out the best images you can find on the Gionee X2.
Battery
When you remove the rear cover of the Gionee X2, you will first of all see her 4000mAh battery before realizing that it is removable.
One will least expect to see a removable battery on a smartphone that was released in 2019. This is old school you know, I believe Gionee felt some of you might like it.
That shouldn’t border you anyway. Your main focus should be on the battery capacity. A 4000mAh battery is enough to keep you active for a decent amount of time.
Software & Specs
The Gionee X2 comes with a pre-installed Android 9.0 Pie Operating System with no User Interface to compliment, Just pure Android.
On the spec sheet, we have 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM which expandability option via micro SD card.
My Thoughts
Gionee have succeeded in presenting another entry-level budget smartphone to take on the S8s that was released some couple of months ago.
The Gionee X2 is sending a strong signal to us. I believe this is Gionee’s way of telling us that they are still around. People should not think they are gone.
In my own opinion, the Gionee X2 is a decent budget smartphone you might want to buy for the name sake “Gionee” but honestly I don’t see anything interesting about this smartphone.

We do prime tech reviews for spec buy on day one.
