Huawei unveiled another interesting device called the Y9s for the mid-range market in Nigeria. Let’s me begin by saying this device is just too good to be true.
I know pretty well that this is not a high-end P30 Pro but this device is a nearly perfect smartphone. It’s just a pinch away from high-end smartphones.
The Huawei Mate Y9s comes with some outstanding features you will love to see on your next smartphone. The absence of a notch is the number one feature that will grab your attention.
You will also admire the unique design here especially if you choose to go for the breathing crystal color. There is also a reasonable amount of storage here too among other stunning features.

Availability & Price in Nigeria
The Huawei Y9s is selling at a midrange price that is slightly expensive in Nigeria. It comes in two great colors: midnight black & breathing crystal. It is available for purchase in online and offline stores in Nigeria.
The design of the Huawei Y9s looks pretty awesome. This is something that will impress you in the first place. It comes with a body that is made of aluminum and glass. The polished glass back with 3D arc design is enough to prove my point.
The Huawei Y9s delivers a smooth and comfortable feeling in your hand. It is inspired by the changing light and shade, you will notice it at the back when you flip it with your hand.
The placements on the Huawei Y9s are pretty normal, it is very similar to what we have on most Huawei phones in Nigeria except for the fact that it is a little different here.
On the right is the usual volume and power button but the power button is now multi-functional in the sense that it has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner attached to it.
The new side-mounted fingerprint scanner lets you unlock the Huawei Y9s in 0.3 seconds. Also, a 1 second press will awaken the voice assistant and a 3 seconds press is enough to power off the phone.
That said, every other placements on the Huawei Y9s is accommodating. On the top is the pop-up selfie camera and hybrid sim-slot. Underneath is a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB port, speaker grill and a microphone. At the back is the triple rear camera.
When it comes to display, you will find an extraordinary 6.59 inch Ultra fullview LCD display. I call it extraordinary because it is of rich class, one will hardly belief it is LCD.
The display also received a 91% screen-to-body ratio that delivers an ultra-wide horizon with nothing standing in the way since there is no notch at the top.
The extraordinary 6.59inch display has a 2340 x 1080p FHD+ resolution with 391PPI that delivers clearer and brighter colors so you can enjoy a broader, more immersive viewing experience in Nigeria.
Playing games, watching videos and consuming online content with this device is in fact enjoyable. You will really appreciate the beauty of LCD screen when you lay your hands on the Huawei Y9s in Nigeria.
On the Huawei Y9s is a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide angle and 2MP depth camera. All the three combined work together to give you an outstanding photographic experience.
The 48MP AI main camera is ultra-clear, her main lens is good at enhancing your photos to be sharper and clearer even when the AI algorithm applies to your images effectively to get the best possible photos in every shot.
The night mode on the Huawei Y9s lights. The superior light sensor combined with the AI algorithm provides incredible stable and clear shots in low-light conditions.
Let’s talk about the 120° available on the 8MP ultra-wide angle lens of this device that opens new doors of possibilities. It allows you take clear pictures with expansive range. Mehn! I love ultra-wide.
In front of the Huawei Y9s is a 16MP pop-up selfie camera that shoots out automatically when you want to take selfies and retracts when you are done.
Portrait mode is great here, the selfie camera helps you capture incredible images because of the position it is shooting from.
There is even an upgraded AI beauty algorithm that retouches your portrait and focus more on your face to get perfect selfies even in low light.
The Huawei Y9s is well equipped with a 4000mAh powerful battery that can support continuous calling for 40 hours, music playback for 80 hours and video playback for 9 hours.
The battery on this device is long-lasting. At least you are sure of a complete day of heavy use. Huawei is in fact telling us to: “get rid of the power bank and focus on your daily tasks as you want”.
Software & Spec
The Huawei Y9s is powered by EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie OS. The EMUI 9.1 UI comes with a simple interactive design and intelligent functions for easy use, like AI communication, wireless printing, phone clone, HUAWEI Share, etc.
Inside the Huawei Y9s is a Kirin 710F chip that efficiently enhances the running speed and lowers the power consumption of this very phone. It runs on a 2.2GHz octa-core processor. Gaming here is no big deal.
Also available on this device is a 6GB RAM that ensures smooth operation with multitasking. The Huawei Y9s has 128GB ROM with expandability option via microSD card slot up to 512GB.
This makes you have more space to play with. Huawei also introduced what they call EROFS super file compression technology that will highly improve the transmission speed and save storage space.
Huawei have done an incredible job with the Y9s. Just think about any essential features you need in your smartphone, you will be surprise to find it here. In fact, it is still android so there is nothing to fear.
Her design is the first thing that turns me on, particularly the breathing crystal color. In a country like Nigeria where there are tons of mid-range smartphones selling at exorbitant rates, Huawei is saying you don’t have to spend too much to get the best.
Either way, the pop-up camera smartphone that is here to stay. Finally, manufacturers are now embracing the pop-up camera technique which I will say is kind of the surest way to go when it comes to notch avoidance at least for now.
