Huawei finally unveiled her high-end phablet at a time when the company is having a tough time with her ban from the United States of America which is already affecting a major part of the company.

One of such is Google open source facilities like android and other services offered by companies Huawei do business with in the United States of America. 

Prior to this time, a lot of press release have gone all over the place that Huawei isn’t going back to using all of Google services anymore on their smartphones.

Well, the Huawei Mate 30 launch just confirmed that. There is no Google play and Google services on the Mate 30. What we have now are Huawei App Gallery and Huawei Mobile Services.

The Huawei App Gallery have over 45,000 apps that is ready for download. The company also announced her $1 billion investment plan to grow her software ecosystem as the year proceeds.

Since the Huawei Mate 30 no longer run on android, it is not going to be shipping to every country. However, the Huawei Mate 30 price starts at $880, it will be available in emerald green, space silver and cosmic purple colors.

Design

There are no major improvements on the Huawei Mate 30, everything here looks very similar to the Mate 20 of last year except for the camera bump at the rear that is now circular in nature.

You will notice that the power and volume buttons are still located on the right. There is also a huge display that dominates the front with a small notch at the top.

To qualify as a phablet and also compete with other big sized high-end flagships in Nigeria, the Huawei Mate 30 comes in a reasonable size that spot a dimension of 160.8 x 76.1 x 8.4mm.

It weighs only 196gram and is IP68 water and dust resistant. There is face ID and an optical fingerprint reader on the Huawei Mate 30.

Display

The Huawei Mate 30 comes with a 6.62 inch full view OLED display, it maintains a 2340 x 1080p resolution that helps with rich and more exciting viewing experience.

The display also boost an 18.4:9 aspect ratio for better views and clarity. It supports DCI-P3 HDR standard. This will help you stream HDR movies and Netflix and other online media content.

Camera

Over the years, Huawei have to a very large extend proven to everyone that they’ve got one of the best camera on a smartphone especially on the mate series. This time, it’s not far from usual.

The Huawei Mate 30 comes with a 24MP front-facing camera that stays on the little notch in front. The camera is good at taking amazing selfie shots with much clarity.

At the back of the Huawei Mate 30 is a camera set up that comprises of an exquisite halo ring that houses four cameras; a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, 40MP f/1.8 super-sensing wide camera, 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens and a focus-assist laser.

The Triple rear camera also have dual-LED flash, 3x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilization. The camera do video recording in 2160p at 30/60fps, 1080p at 30/60/120fps and 720p at 960fps.

Battery

When you see a smartphone with big screen in Nigeria, we always expect to see a large battery under the hood right? That is exactly what Huawei did with the Mate 30.

Inside the Huawei Mate 30 is a 4200mAh battery that is long-lasting. It can last for a complete day on heavy usage and even extend to several days for light users.

There is also a 40W supercharge technology for fast charging. A 27W is also present on the Huawei Mate 30 to assist with wireless charging. The reverse wireless charging is thrice as fast now.

Software & Spec

The Huawei Mate 30 is powered by Android 10 based on EMUI 10 UI which we all know is Huawei primary User Interface. It comes with nice and user friendly gestures. But there are no Google Services.

The Huawei Mate 30 now comes with a kirin 990 chipset which is one of the fastest in town. It has 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM with has expandable options via micro SD card up to 256GB.

My thoughts

The Huawei Mate 30 is no doubt a wonderful phablet that almost had it all except for one thing that is missing; Google android absence. It is sad to see a standard flagship miss something vital.

Am beginning to imagine how this whole concept will look like. No Google play store. So tell me, how can i continue enjoying all of my favorite android Apps. What’s gonna happen next..

For some time now, I have been quiet about this Huawei ban issue because I was waiting to see the outcome of the Mate 30 series. But guess what?

The Huawei Mate 30 finally came out with no android. Up till now, Huawei still prove different. They are taking a big risk yo know.

This could go a long way in affecting the company’s global market share. Huawei is already selecting the market they believe the Hate 30 can sell pretty well but what about other emerging markets like Nigeria.

Yes! We know that Huawei is seriously working hard to make the Harmony OS better than Android but will people be interested in trying it out? This will take some time to figure out.

In the meantime, many are going to quit using Huawei smartphones in Nigeria. We hope they come out of this mess soon.
