The fastest charging smartphone is here, the Oppo Reno Ace. This is the probably the smartphone you have dreamt of having at some point in your life.
Let face it, charging up a big battery smartphone with no fast charging feature can be frustrating. You have to wait for hours to get up to 100% which can be very annoying.
Now we have the fastest charging smartphone around to help ease things up particularly for us here in Nigeria who love to do things on the go.
We barely have time to sit beside our smartphones waiting for it to charge up completely. I believe you probably act similar if you live elsewhere.
Before we go straight into the review, let me first of all inform you that the Oppo Reno Ace come in two variant: a regular version and a Gundam edition.
Being a lover of games, I decided to pick the Gundam edition for my review not because it is a fully dedicated smartphone for gaming but because it has some little touch that sets it apart from the regular variant .

Availability & Price
The Oppo Reno Ace is currently available in China. If you live in Nigeria, you probably would have to wait a little bit before this thing gets shipped over.
However, the Gundam edition is considered a special edition because only 30,000 unit where made. So you can imagine how many hands can get hold of it in Nigeria.
I am sure Oppo is currently considering spreading this feature to their next generation smartphone in the coming year 2020.
When it comes to price, the Oppo Reno Ace with 8GB/128GB cost around $420 which is equivalent to about #151,200 naira in Nigeria.
Design
The Oppo Reno Ace comes standard, from her design you can tell that this is a gaming smartphone. It has a water drop notch and some extra Gundam red, blue and yellow touch at the back.
This unique color identity automatically sends a strong signal to everyone that this is not a regular smartphone but a gaming phone, not forgetting to mention the beautiful case that is included in the box.
The Oppo Reno Ace comes with a metal and glass body. In between is an aluminum frame that is surrounded by a glass body with some curved edges around.
It comes standard with a 161 x 75 x 8.7mm dimension and weighs only 200g. At the right is a sim tray for two Nano sim cards and a dedicated power button but there is no microSD slot.
At the top, you will notice that there is a speaker with dolby atmos technology that producing magnificent sounds together with a down-firing speaker at the bottom.
Oppo was kind enough to include a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom of the Reno Ace. There is even a microphone and a USB Type-C port at the bottom.
Display
On the display, we’ve got a 6.5 inch OLED screen that has a 90Hz refresh rate. This automatically means it refreshes 90 times per second which is incredibly fast.
I also must let you know that the 90Hz refresh rate adjust automatically to suite the display you are working on. The display comes with a 2400 x 1080p resolution which assist in presenting a crisp, clear and bright display.
In summary, I will say the display quality here is awesome. Either you are playing games or watching movies, You are going to love the excellent display you will see on the Oppo Reno Ace when you hold one in Nigeria.
Camera
The Oppo Reno Ace comes with four standard cameras at the back: 48MP main, 13MP telephoto, 8MP wide angle and 2MP (black & white) monochrome. The camera has different zoom option: standard mode, 2x zoom and 5x hybrid zoom.
With the above mentioned camera features, what else do you want from a camera. On the average, the Oppo Reno Ace can shot incredible images during the day but it shots fairly at night in Nigeria.
The camera system on the Oppo Reno Ace can also detect what you are taking a picture of using the AI on the camera. Also, 4k videos can be recorded at 60fps. In front of the Oppo Reno Ace is a 16MP front-facing camera for taking selfies and making short videos.
Battery
This is the sweetest part of this smartphone. This is the number one reason you will want to lay your hands on the Oppo Reno Ace in Nigeria even though it is not the Gundam edition.
This thing charges really fast. In fact, there is no smartphone that can compete with the Oppo Reno Ace in Nigeria even Apple won’t dear 😊 but that is only for now. I love this phone for this.
The Oppo Reno Ace comes with a 4000mAh lithium-ion battery and a superVOOC 2.0 charger that Supports 65W charging which gives it the liberty to complete a 0 – 100% charge in 29 minutes.
See battery charge test
Yes! You heard me 29 minutes.
Mind you, you are not just charging a 4000mAh battery in 29 minutes for record sake. The battery here is long-lasting. On heavy usage, you are guaranteed a full day to enjoy in Nigeria.
Software & Spec
The Oppo Reno Ace comes with ColorOS 6.1 and a Gundam theme on top based on Andriod 9.0 OS. The Gundam theme looks kind of cartoony. It is not stock android by any means but that’s the easiest way to identify it in Nigeria.
Inside this amazing smartphone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 plus processor and an Adreno 640 GPU. The Oppo Reno Ace comes with different storage configuration; 8/12GB RAM and 128/256GB ROM respectively.
Security features
In here, we have an In-display fingerprint scanner and a Face Unlock system that is fast. It works pretty okay. You can use any of the two to secure the Oppo Reno Ace in Nigeria.
In the Box
In the box, you will find the OPPO Reno Ace, 65W charger, USB-C cable, SIM Tool and a TPU case that is just too sweet to ignore.
My Thoughts
After engaging your smartphone in some serious gaming, the next thing you start worry about is charging it. With the Oppo Reno Ace, that is considered to be a thing of the past. Play for hours and charge in minutes. Hmm! 🤔 It’s that simple.
Gamers in the house, I can tell you are happy with what you are seeing on the Oppo Reno Ace. We all like to see top gaming features coming to an affordable smartphone and still don’t want to miss out in display, camera and the likes.
That is what Oppo have just done with the Reno Ace. It is just like saying, there is more to smartphone than gaming. If I tell you I don’t love this smartphone at all, I am only pretending. This Gundam edition looks incredibly awesome especially when you wear the TPU case on it.
The Oppo Reno Ace Gundam edition is for everyone, whether you are a gamer or not. If you ever lay your hands on the Oppo Reno Ace in Nigeria, consider yourself a lucky person but please handle with care.
