Last Updated on August 2, 2018 by TM
The Motorola Moto G6 play is another budget smartphone from Motorola, it came out at about the same time the Motorola Moto G6 and Moto G6 plus where unveiled in May 2018. Among the G series that came out this year, the Motorola Moto G6 play turns out to be the cheapest.
The Motorola Moto G6 play is selling at a price that is almost the same as the price of the Tecno Camon X in Nigeria. The price of both smartphones are so close that one would begin contemplate on which to go for.
However, the Motorola Moto G6 play has some stunning features that’s worth considering, it has a 4000mAh battery, a snapdragon 430 chipset and an 18:9 aspect ratio which happens to be scares among phones in that price range in Nigeria.
Design
The Motorola Moto G6 play received a few step down in her design, on like the Moto G6 and G6 plus which got a glass back, the Moto G6 play was given a plastic back. The plastic back appears cool even though Motorola had to make sure a protective cover was provided to compensate for that and also prevent scratch when using the phone in Nigeria.
The Motorola Moto G6 play has this classic look and a width that is 72.2mm wide which makes it convenient to handle. The sides are however made of aluminum, it has a headphone jack, micro USB and a fingerprint reader at the back. The fingerprint appears to be placed in a different position on like what we saw on the Motorola Moto G6 and Moto G6 plus.
Display
Talking about display, the Motorola Moto G6 play has a 5.7inch display, 18:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1440 pixels and a 282ppi pixel density. The 18:9 aspect ratio is a big plus to this phone because this feature is common among high-end phones in Nigeria but we are glad to see this appear on the Motorola Moto G6 play which happens to be a budget phone.
The Moto G6 also got the lowest resolution among the G series, the display doesn’t appear very much outstanding too. The color performance is a little bit lower than the one we saw on the Motorola Moto G6 but the color temperature is customizable. This customization option can let you adjust the screen to suite your display needs.
Battery
The battery life is plus one on this phone. The Motorola Moto G6 play has a huge 4000mAh battery that can last for a full day of intensive usage. Honestly, the battery life of this phone is really good, if battery life is what you are after on a smartphone in Nigeria, sincerely you won’t be disappointed buying the Motorola Moto G6 play in Nigeria.
Charging speed is awesome too, with the Motorola turbo fast charging feature on board, you get 0 to 100% charge in less than 2 hours; so there isn’t any reason to get disturbed when the battery gets down as a result of fun filled engagements.
Camera
The Motorola Moto G6 play has a 13MP rear and an 8MP front-facing camera. There is LED flash and an f/2.O lens at the rear. The Camera on the Motorola Moto G6 play works best during the day, the dynamic range on the software also helps in making camera shots pretty awesome.
The Camera app is easy to understand, it can render slow motion videos and there is an auto HDR mode that can help you take dynamic photo shots in Nigeria. When there is low light, the Motorola Moto G6 play have manual mode that helps to improve low-light performance.
Pricing
The Motorola Moto G6 play cost $189.99 that about ₦68,400 in Nigeria
My thoughts
The Motorola Moto G6 play is a great budget phone that is worth considering, it is selling at a price that falls in the same price range with other phones coming from competitors like the Tecno and Infinix.
This makes it even more difficult to make the right choice. However, there are just a few downside I would love to share with you about the Motorola Moto G6 play before buying in Nigeria.
- The Motorola Moto G6 play has micro USB port rather than the USB-C we see on most smartphones that came in this year.
- The Motorola Moto G6 play doesn’t take great photos at night
- The camera shooting speed is not instantaneous, it’s a bit slow
- The Fingerprint scanner doesn’t respond immediately
